The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’ Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.
Obadiah 3-4 NIV
What is in us who have created nothing of true value in life that causes us to be prideful? Through whatever means we have gained anything deemed good, how can we assert that we deserve more good than someone else? If we do not keep in mind that but for the grace of God we all would sit in the lowest places of this world, God has declared He will bring us down to show us. Pride comes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 1 John 2:16 NIV
