God's Work

Posted on September 21, 2017 at 8:34 AM Comments comments (2)
God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that He won’t stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.

And until that day, Jesus Christ will keep you busy doing good deeds that bring glory and praise to God.

Philippians 1:6,9 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

It is a blessing to know that the good we do is God's work because sometimes we just can't do good on our own.  The God of Creation has a plan for our lives and when we acknowledge Him for who He is, we can actually see Him working in our lives, and we can't take credit for it.  He even works in the lives of those who don't acknowledge Him because He wants everyone to know who He is.  He wants none to perish.  Many run, but none can hide.

Every day we wake up is another chance to get it right, another chance to believe in who He is, another chance to accept Him as our Savior, trust Him to show us the way and follow Him.  And when Jesus said He would never leave or forsake us, I believe He meant just that.  He's not going to leave us "alone."  He's going to keep us busy doing things and seeing things and hearing things that bring glory to God by making us rely upon Him each and every day of our lives until He returns, whether we want to be bothered or not.  That's why we call Him awesome!

Who Knows?

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!

For who can know the Lord’s thoughts?

Who knows enough to give him advice?

And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?

For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory.  All glory to him forever! Amen.

Romans 11:33-36 New Living Translation (NLT)

I haven't been able to post on my Blog since Monday morning and my website service worked all this time trying to fix the problem.  They couldn't figure out what happened and they still haven't figured out what happened.

When I can't figure out what is happening in my life, I trust God that He is in total control, especially when it is all about Him. Who knows but God what this interruption was about, but it's over now.  My Blog is back up and I'm blogging right now.  And God gets the glory!

Let's talk.  Let's talk about how everything intended for the glory of God cannot be stopped and no matter who or what attempts to thwart His plan, it won't work.  God's will be done!

Rejoice in the Lord always!

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!  Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Philippians 4:4 is my favorite verse of Scripture.  And it's not because I always do rejoice in the Lord, but because this verse reminds me that I should always rejoice.  God has written these words on my heart and it seems they come to my mind every time I encounter a problem.  And eventually, I feel that peace that surpasses understanding, no matter the outcome of the issue.  It indeed becomes a "whatever" moment.

Fighting feelings of anxiety and distress when the world is constantly throwing "stuff" at us are battles we cannot win without God's help.  I am truly thankful for the grace given by God to simply rejoice in Him and lay every weight at His feet.  That's when I am given the strength to keep going and gain peace to keep right on rejoicing!  Thank You, Jesus!

Foolishness

Posted on September 13, 2017 at 9:29 AM Comments comments (2)
This so-called “foolish” plan of God is far wiser than the wisest plan of the wisest man, and God in his weakness—Christ dying on the cross—is far stronger than any man.

Notice among yourselves, dear brothers, that few of you who follow Christ have big names or power or wealth.  Instead, God has deliberately chosen to use ideas the world considers foolish and of little worth in order to shame those people considered by the world as wise and great.  He has chosen a plan despised by the world, counted as nothing at all, and used it to bring down to nothing those the world considers great, so that no one anywhere can ever brag in the presence of God.

1 Corinthians 1:25-29 Living Bible (TLB)

The Word of God tells Believers to always be ready to give a reason for our faith.  Yet, it also states that some will consider it "foolish" to believe in the doctrines of Christianity.  So that's a challenging dilemma that we face as we give glory to God to those who do not believe.  Once again, God is requiring His children to rely upon Him to make the plant grow as we plant and water it in faith.

Whether we believe it or not, we are also told in God's Word that the story of Jesus has an ending that will one day impact the entire world.  Being called to try to follow in His steps as a way of life is not a bad thing.  In fact, it is a good thing and the Gospel is often referred to as "Good News."  The Word of God (the Bible) is alive and active and inspired by God.  He took ordinary people and demonstrated His power over their lives.  In His Word, He promises help and hope for us to live in this world so full of trouble, pain and ultimately death.  I can think of many other "foolish" things I do that do not promise an eternal future in a Kingdom where there are no more tears and sorrow.  And I can't brag about them either.

I thank God for something good to look forward to by choosing to follow Jesus.  Even when I stumble, He picks me up.

The Hairs on My Head

“Five sparrows are sold for only two pennies, and God does not forget any of them. But God even knows how many hairs you have on your head. Don’t be afraid. You are worth much more than many sparrows."

Luke 12:6-7 New Century Version (NCV)

When I go to get my hair cut, I sometimes wonder if I'm making things hard for the Lord.  Seriously!  Since He knows how many hairs He put on my head, keeping up with all I do to my hair is indeed something only a sovereign God can do.

It is a blessing to know that nothing about me goes unnoticed and unloved by God.  It takes acceptance of and reverence for a supernatural Creator to recognize that He knows everything I am and everything I'm not, and still puts great value on me.  The wig, the weave, the haircut and anything else we do to our heads are all outside.  God looks inside at the root for He made every pore (even those that don't grow hair anymore).  He looks at our hearts, examines our thoughts for motive and intent, and loves us anyway.  He just wants us to love Him back the same way:  unconditionally.

Adversity

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Isaiah 43:2-3 New Living Translation (NLT)

The world is consumed with adversity resulting from floods and fires.  It is comforting to know that God has a Word for this before we experience it.  We don't usually feel comforted when we "go through," but we are blessed to have the assurance that our Savior is with us through everything.

As many remember the horror of September 11, 2001, many others are totally caught up in recovering from a storm that devastated their lives.  Yet, as we endure these trials and tribulations, this fact remains:  God is with us and He controls the future.  Be encouraged.  This too shall pass.

"Do Not Worry"

Posted on September 7, 2017 at 9:10 AM Comments comments (3)
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:25-27, 33-34 New International Version (NIV)

Easy for Jesus to say but so hard for us to do.  But He gives us a promise in this precept.  And that promise does not include life here "tomorrow."  We are not promised the next 15 minutes on this planet. Yet, we are promised his care and provision both now and forever as we seek Him.

Since we don't control our time here on earth, let's live according to Christ's promise of forever by seeking His Kingdom.  He shed His blood to prove what He will do for us.  He rose from the grave to show us how it would be done.  He ascended into Heaven to intercede for us at the Father's right hand and to prepare our places in His Kingdom.  He promised to return and establish His Kingdom forever.  When we believe in and live for that promise, we have nothing to worry about.

A Thorn

Posted on September 6, 2017 at 8:50 AM Comments comments (3)
I will say this: because these experiences I had were so tremendous, God was afraid I might be puffed up by them; so I was given a physical condition which has been a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to hurt and bother me and prick my pride.  Three different times I begged God to make me well again.

Each time he said, “No. But I am with you; that is all you need.  My power shows up best in weak people.”  Now I am glad to boast about how weak I am; I am glad to be a living demonstration of Christ’s power, instead of showing off my own power and abilities.  Since I know it is all for Christ’s good, I am quite happy about “the thorn,” and about insults and hardships, persecutions and difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong—the less I have, the more I depend on him.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Living Bible (TLB)

No one is greater than God.  God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit - all One.  We will understand this better one day when we see Him face-to-face.  And one day we will see Him for this is a promise to everyone, whether we accept it now or not.  "EVERY knee shall bow. . . ."

In the meantime, we must appreciate His gift of grace with humble adoration.  And just in case we forget to do this, He has placed in each of us "a thorn" that helps us to remember that we are weak and limited in our power and abilities while He is not.  His grace is sufficient for every need.  Trust Him.

Smile!

In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of people who are crooked and stubborn.  Shine out among them like beacon lights, holding out to them the Word of Life.

Philippians 2:14-16 Living Bible (TLB)

Today I will smile.  I will smile even if I don't feel happy because joy does not come from being happy.  Joy comes from the Lord.  I will smile if someone tries to argue with me, because whatever is said that I may disagree with doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.  I will smile so that I can focus on what God has for me to do because anything less will steal my peace.  My smile will be my candle in the darkness and I'm gonna let it shine!

Sometimes there seems to be nothing to smile about.  We argue about things that don't really matter and we complain whether it's raining or if the sun shines too hot.  Yet, it serves no purpose because these things don't change simply because we don't like or agree with them.  They change when we ask God to change them, according to His will.  Let's shine our lights in this troubled world and cast the darkness away.

Fix your face.  Smile.

I Pray

Yet I still belong to You; you hold my right hand.
You guide me with Your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.
Whom have I in heaven but You? I desire You more than anything on earth.

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.

Psalm 73:23-26 New Living Translation (NLT)

Sovereign Lord,

You are the Living God who spoke all things into existence.  All glory, praise and honor are Yours for every good and perfect gift.  We come to Your Throne of mercy through Jesus Christ to give You thanks.

Thank You for who You are.  Thank You for loving us and for Your grace that covers us.  This has been a rough week, Lord God.  But it is a blessed assurance to know that You are still on that Throne.  Omniscient One, Your mercy endures forever.  You sit high and look low with love and compassion upon all Your hands have made.  You see it all.

Comfort those who mourn.  Cover those whose lives have been changed so abruptly and provide hope for the future.  Restore, renew and revive all that was lost and let us all begin again to recognize what is most important among these things.  Be our strength and guide us as You use Your children to demonstrate Your love in the midst of adversity. Heal our land, again.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
